BAC DOMESTIC REDESIGN

2014

QUT DESIGN COMPETITION

AWARDED SECOND PLACE

As part of Design Week at QUT this design competition requested a proposal for redesign of the taxi rank at the Brisbane Airport Domestic Terminal. The brief required consideration of pedestrian traffic, wayfinding and ease of installation as well as addressing the aspiration to 'Champion Brisbane to the world' in keeping with the Brisbane Airport Corporation's manifesto.

My concept approaches the brief with focus on sensory activation and phenomenology proposing the installation of ceiling feature elements reminiscent of our beautiful natural landscape. Lazercut recycled timber 'leaves' are suspended above walkways and thresholds into the terminal, activated by the breezes that pass through the space, these elements would create a sonic atmosphere similar to the sound of trees rustling in the wind, delighting travellers and welcoming them into our wonderful city.
