LEND LEASE, BRISBANE SHOWGROUNDS
CARPARK FACADE DESIGN COMPETITION
Open to QUT and QCA students, this design competition requested an artwork proposal for the new Kings Co-Op Carpark Facade. The artwork was required to suit the technical requirements of the facade system (size, detail and airflow constraints), allow for sections of the facade to incorporate living plantation and espouse the strong sense of place for which the Brisbane Showgrounds is renowned.
My approach for this submission was to consider the plantation and the artwork as a whole installation, changing and growing over time. It seeks to highlight our relationship with our providers and the important role the agricultural industry plays in our lives.
Our hands are the eyes of our skin.
They are our personal tools that allow us to connect with the world, share with each other and contribute to our community.
This artwork is a tribute to the hard work of all Australian farmers, and a reminder of our providers. It is a celebration of life and the vital connections we all rely on: the connections between friends, our connection to the community and the connection from paddock to plate.
