INTERIOR + INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
The ‘Pinch Lounge’ was designed and fabricated by five QUT students as part of a collaborative project which questioned the traditional uses of furniture in society. “Pinchy” was inspired by the Australian culture of relaxed outdoor living. The composition of 114 timber spikes creates the impression of motion, as though native flora & fauna has been frozen in time. The design and construction process began with leftover palettes donated by Sharp Plywood, that were broken down, sorted, laminated together and sculpted. Pinch Lounge is constructed out of 70% recycled materials and finished with a unique Australian copper penny detailing that cleverly conceals the structural system, and are themselves a reminder of natural influence in Australian culture & design.
